Over 2.4 bn BLIK transactions in 2024 and 7 bn in 10 years

BLIK has just turned ten and is now one of the most widely used payment methods in Poland. Over the past decade, users have completed 7 bn transactions, with their total value approaching one trillion PLN. The year 2024 was another record-breaking period – the number of transactions exceeded 2.4 bn, marking a 37% year-on-year increase, while their total value reached PLN 347.3 bn (83.4 bn EUR, +43% y/y). This means that in 2024 alone, BLIK users carried out more than half of all transactions made in the previous nine years combined.

Continued dominance in e-commerce

BLIK’s dynamic growth is particularly evident in e-commerce, which remains its key channel. In 2024, users made 1.2 bn payments in online stores – a 27% increase compared to the previous year – with a total value of PLN 172.6 billion (41.5 bn EUR, 37% y/y). The average online payment value reached PLN 148 (36 EUR).

One of the most popular transaction categories in terms of value was "home & garden," which saw a 42% y/y increase, with an average basket value of PLN 413 (99 EUR). Meanwhile, transportation services and bill payments were among the most frequent expenses covered with BLIK, with transaction volumes in these two categories growing by 25% and 18% y/y, respectively.

Last year, BLIK strengthened its position in e-commerce by offering users greater flexibility in online shopping. A new service, BLIK Pay Later, was introduced in two banks, allowing users to defer payments by 30 days. This solution, which enables even more convenient spending planning, has been gaining popularity, with an average transaction value of PLN 353 (85  EUR) in its first year.

Over the past 10 years, BLIK has irreversibly changed how Poles pay for their everyday purchases. The results from last year confirm that the system is growing dynamically and has the potential for further expansion. From the start, our main goal was to create a simple and convenient mobile payment method. Today, we are one of the key players in Poland’s digital financial ecosystem. The total value of e-commerce transactions made with BLIK since its launch has exceeded half a trillion PLN, proving the trust that users place in us daily. With them in mind, we continue to enhance our solutions, focusing on improving payment efficiency and convenience. Services like ‘BLIK Pay Later’ and the planned rollout of contactless payments on iPhones demonstrate our ability to address real consumer needs

- says Monika Król, Vice President of Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of BLIK.

Contactless BLIK doubled in growth

BLIK is also expanding beyond the online space. Between January and December 2024, users completed 576.8 m transactions at point-of-sale (POS) terminals – a 58% increase compared to 2023. Nearly half (46%) of these were contactless payments, which more than doubled in volume to 263.1 m (+101% y/y). The total value of contactless BLIK transactions in this period reached PLN 11.7 bn (2.8 bn EUR), with an average transaction amount of PLN 45 (11 EUR). The popularity of this service continues to grow, with 3.6 m users having activated it by the end of the year.

Strong growth in P2P transfers and stability in ATMs

Last year also saw a significant increase in peer-to-peer transfers. Every fourth BLIK transaction was a P2P transfer, with a total of 604.8 m such transactions carried out, representing 46% y/y growth. On average, 1.7 m instant transfers were made daily, with an average transaction value of PLN 158 (38 EUR).

Meanwhile, ATM transactions remained stable, with users performing 70.4 m operations throughout the year, up 15% y/y. Withdrawals dominated (61.9 m), but deposits were also significant (8.5 m). The average transaction value in this category was PLN 705 (169 EUR).

76 transactions per second

BLIK's popularity continues to rise, attracting more and more Poles. In 2024, the number of active users grew to 18.5 m, who carried out an average of 6.6 m transactions per day. On the busiest day of the quarter, as many as 11 m BLIK transactions were completed. The average transaction value for the entire year was PLN 144 (35 EUR). In total, BLIK transactions in 2024 amounted to PLN 347.3 bn (83.4 bn EUR), while over the 10-year history of the system, the total value has reached nearly PLN 1 trillion (240.4 bn EUR). These figures clearly show that BLIK has become an integral part of everyday payments for Poles.

Further expansion in Romania and Slovakia

During 2024, BLIK continued its international expansion, strengthening its presence in foreign markets. In September, customers of Tatra Banka in Slovakia gained the ability to pay with BLIK in e-commerce. Since then, the network of stores accepting BLIK payments has been growing steadily, currently reaching many merchants, including Reserved, Sinsay, eobuwie, Hebe, Muziker, and Tous.

Expansion is also accelerating in Romania, where BLIK Romania S.A. has obtained authorization from the National Bank of Romania. This milestone paves the way for the launch of BLIK services in the country and will allow Romanian consumers to access convenient and secure mobile payments in the near future.

A decade on the Polish market has allowed us to build a solid foundation and gain valuable experience in the development of a comprehensive solution, which we have been successively developing. 10 years of work have shaped our approach to innovation and efficiency, showing us how to create services that remain relevant in a dynamically changing environment. Overseas expansion is a natural step for us on this path - launching in Slovakia and obtaining regulatory approval in Romania is not only the start of a new phase, but also proof that our model is internationally scalable and ready for new challenges. We intend to further develop BLIK in the Central and Eastern European region, using the experience gained on the dynamic Polish market

- adds Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, CEO of Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of BLIK.

BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. The option to use BLIK in mobile banking applications is now available to virtually every customer of domestic payment institutions offering a mobile app. The company Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for developing the system. PSP continuously enhances BLIK’s functionality to make the system as user-friendly and versatile as possible. The shareholders of PSP are Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski, and Mastercard.
