BLIK Contactless Payments Soon Available on iOS
BLIK contactless payments have gained immense popularity among Android users. Soon, iOS device owners will also be able to access this functionality on their phones. The work to introduce the service is at an advanced stage – the technology has already been provided to banks, and its implementation in mobile applications is scheduled for next year.
The availability of contactless payments on iOS devices responds to the growing needs of users who expect even greater convenience and transaction speed. Following the successful launch of this option for Android users in Poland's six largest banks, BLIK is intensifying its efforts to deliver the same experience to Apple’s ecosystem users.
The agreement between the European Commission and Apple allows external service providers like BLIK to access NFC payments. As a result, the decision to introduce contactless functionality on iOS was a natural step for us, addressing long-awaited market needs and reaffirming our position as a leader in mobile payments. We have an ambitious goal to be the first in Europe to launch a solution that enables users to make payments both locally in Poland and within a global acceptance network. This way, we are breaking yet another barrier, bringing us closer to the vision of a universal, accessible payment system for everyone
, says Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, CEO of Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of the BLIK system.
This project also highlights the innovative nature of our banking partners, who actively collaborate with us to effectively compete with solutions offered by global technology companies. Thanks to their engagement and openness to new technologies, it is possible to create an alternative that combines flexibility, security, and wide accessibility. We are currently at an advanced stage of development – the technology has already been shared with banks, and full implementation in mobile applications is planned for the coming year. This is a significant development step for us, also in the context of our plans for international expansion
, he adds.
The contactless payment service is already generating high interest from users. Since its launch, more than 3.5 million people have activated it. In the third quarter alone, 79.3 million transactions were made – a 114% increase compared to the previous year. By making this feature available on iOS devices, an even larger group of users will be able to take advantage of the convenient and fast BLIK contactless payments, which is expected to further drive the growth in transaction volume.
BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. The option to use BLIK in mobile banking applications is now available to virtually every customer of domestic payment institutions offering a mobile app. The company Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for developing the system. PSP continuously enhances BLIK’s functionality to make the system as user-friendly and versatile as possible. The shareholders of PSP are Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski, and Mastercard.
