New service BLIK Pay Later – tests of deferred payments at Bank Millennium has started

BLIK expands its portfolio of services and launches deferred payments. Selected customers of Bank Millennium have already used the BLIK Pay Later service as part of the tests. Payments are handled by Przelewy24, and the first merchant to accept payments is MediaMarkt. The "buy now, pay later" by BLIK will enable customers to shop online easily and conveniently.

BLIK is a favourite payment method in e-commerce in Poland, which wins over competitive solutions primarily with convenience and security. According to the estimates of the Polish Payment Standard, the share of BLIK transactions in e-commerce payments – ranges from 50 to 78 percent. Thus, it is ahead of fast transfers and cards in the ranking of Poles' preferences. Deferred payments, in turn, are one of the fastest growing trends in e-commerce around the world. The growing expectations of consumers in this area mean that more and more online sellers offer them to their customers. The BLIK Pay Later service is the answer to these needs.

Deferred payments are one of our strategic projects. Every day, users carry over 3 million BLIK transactions. BLIK Pay Later perfectly complements our portfolio, giving customers the additional benefit of deferred payment. We are convinced that our service will become the Buy Now Pay Later standard on this still emerging market

– says Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, President of the Management Board of the Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of BLIK.

Implementation is possible thanks to the cooperation of several entities. Settlement of BLIK Pay Later transactions is enabled by Przelewy24, while the store where customers can use such type of payment is mediamarkt.pl. The service was the first to be made available to a selected group of customers by Bank Millennium.

Bank Millennium's customers are eager to use modern solutions. BLIK contactless payments, which last year we made available as the first bank in Poland, are very popular among our customers. Now we want to give them an option where they can postpone the payment date for purchases at no cost. By expanding our offer, we focus primarily on the needs and preferences of customers. According to our strategy, together with them, we co-create the solutions made available. That is why we decided to start the BLIK Pay Later pilot. After testing the solution by a selected group of customers, we will make the service available to everyone

– says Halina Karpińska, Head of Electronic Banking Department at Bank Millennium and Secretary of the Supervisory Board at Polish Payment Standard.

Deferred payments remove one of the key barriers of e-commerce - the need to commit funds before physically receiving the product. Therefore, they have great potential especially in stores where we deal with purchases of slightly larger amounts, such as those with electronics. We are pleased that MediaMarkt, a leading representative of this sector, has decided to be the first merchant that accepts this form of payment

– says Witold Litaszewski, Director of the Consumer Finance Department at Polski Standard Płatności.

The new service also brings benefits to merchants. By introducing it to the offer of their shop, they gain the certainty of receiving payment immediately from the moment of purchase and quick execution of a given order. The whole BLIK Pay Later payment process thus creates a very positive experience, both when it comes to the buyer and the merchant.

BLIK is steadily working on the gradual expansion of the availability of the service. In the next phase of the project, the solution will be made available to a larger group of customers, as well as in further banks and stores.
