Settling accounts with friends or organising collections for a gift will be even easier thanks to Bank Millennium. The Bank has made it possible for customers to use the BLIK Transfer Request service.
Bucharest, 8th March 2023 - BLIK company, leader on the payment systems market in Poland, is launching in Romania, the second largest market in Central and Eastern Europe. The newly established company, BLIK Romania, will develop a unique and innovative digital payment system in RON that will bring a number of major advantages, including high security and simplifying payments by generating and using an individual six-digit code for each transaction. In the first phase, the system operator will focus on implementing the solution in e-commerce.
BLIK turns eight years old. It is one of the most popular payment methods in Poland. During this time, its users have carried out almost 2.8 bn transactions totalling PLN 371.4 bn. In 2022, more than 1.2 bn operations worth PLN 163.9 bn were carried out. BLIK is most eagerly used in e-commerce: as many as 714,200,00 payments were made through BLIK last year. Over the past 12 months, the number of BLIK phone transfers and POS payments has grown very dynamically: in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 110% and 162% was recorded in these channels, respectively. At the end of December 2022, the number of registered mobile apps with access to BLIK was 25.9 million, while the number of active users was almost 13 million.
Over the 4 days covering the two marketing events - Black Friday and Cyber Monday - users made nearly 15 million transactions worth over PLN 2 billion with BLIK. The most significant part was online shopping - 11 million transactions, worth PLN 1.6 billion. Most transactions were made on Black Friday, 25 November 2022.
The third quarter of 2022 was a landmark year for BLIK. Users made over 300 million transactions in three months for the first time in system history. It is an increase of 67% year-on-year. At that time, the number of payments in traditional payment terminals grew the most dynamically. During this period, the system recorded as many as 67.7 million such transactions, almost a third of which were contactless payments. At the end of September 2022, BLIK was actively used by 12 million customers – and they performed an average of 3.5 million operations with it each day.
BLIK expands its portfolio of services and launches deferred payments. Selected customers of Bank Millennium have already used the BLIK Pay Later service as part of the tests. Payments are handled by Przelewy24, and the first merchant to accept payments is MediaMarkt. The "buy now, pay later" by BLIK will enable customers to shop online easily and conveniently.
Polish Payment Standard, operator of the BLIK mobile payment system, has signed a purchase agreement for 100 percent of shares of the Slovak company VIAMO – a provider of P2P payment services and payments to businesses. It will enter into force after obtaining the approval of the central bank of Slovakia – Národná banka Slovenska (NBS). For BLIK, the acquisition of the technological company from Bratislava is an important step in international development.
